M.Jonesy Friday Fab Five Tips – St. Patrick’s Day

For those of you who have never experienced St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago it’s definitely one of those events that you should add to your travel bucket list. It’s a sight to see and definitely a true Chicago experience. As you know I am not Irish LOL. But this is one of my favorite holidays. I mean the city dyes the river GREEN! Well not really green. I’m told that they add orange coloring to brown water and it mixes together to make the most vibrant green. Can someone fact check this for me and let me know? Thanks in advance.

Anyway, every St. Patrick’s Day we had down to the city to see the river dying and just have a great afternoon with our friends at some of our favorite Chicago establishments.

Usually I don’t want to invest in crazy emerald green colored attire that I might not wear again. Well really, I’ll probably never wear again. Emerald green is not a staple in the SBMJ closet. But I try to find ways to be festive and play around with the items that I do have.

If you’re heading down to celebrate tomorrow here are five outfits for this week’s SBMJ Fab Five Friday tips to give you some outfit inspiration.

SBMJ Friday Fab Five Tips for dressing for St Patrick’s Day:

1) Outfit #1 is this hunter green shift dress from Akira. Pair it with some over-the-knees and a cross body clutch and you’re good to go.  Best part is it’s a multi-functional holiday dress too — I wore it for Christmas last year! Throw a crop blazer over it, some tights, and booties and it’s a great work outfit.  Better yet, add a duster for date night. You know my love for dusters!

2) Outfit #2 is this awesome NEON GREEN dress from Pull & Bear. Back in my traveling days I would go to Italy every spring and Pull & Bear was one of my first shopping stops. I’ve worn this with heels and cardigan for a wedding shower or with sandals on a beach vacation. Perfect with a tan. For a casual afternoon of green beer at your local green beer serving bar, a denim jacket and pair of white sneakers would look casu-fab!

3) Outfit #3 is for those who aren’t ready for their legs to brave the Chicago cold. These hunter green high waisted skinny jeans from Fashion Nova.  They are super comfortable and a great price – less than $40! Paired with a long sleeve bodysuit from Naked Wardrobe and these Michael Kors T-strap sandals, you can be St. Patrick’s day festive by day and then head out for a casual date at night. Also, all 3 pieces are something that you can integrate into any outfit. Body suit + blazer, colored denim and casual tee, T-straps with anything and everything!

4) Outfit #4 can be considered a stretch in regards to festiveness…but this olive green bomber jacket from Akira is everything.  Every time I’ve worn it I’ve gotten so many inquiries and compliments. Leggins and booties or denim and flats — either combo works.  I’d say if you were going to splurge on a St. Patrick’s day themed piece, try to find a cute festive tee to wear under this bomber.  You can find a bunch online or at your local Chicago boutique

5) Last but not least, outfit #5 is my most festive yet most basic. A fashion oxymoron. A black scoop neck bodysuit and wide leg velour pants from Akira can be paired with heels or booties and then add green accessories for a pop.  This bag was a purchase from many St. Paddy’s days ago and has been my go to ever since. I store all my St Paddy’s goodies in there so I have them every year haha. Add some other touches like green nail polish.

Whether you are a festive AF person who goes all out with shamrock headbands and bright green tutus, or more subdued looking to add some pops of green here or there, own your style. Be proud of what you are wearing and walk down the streets of Chicago with your head up, kilt and all!

I hope everyone has a fantastic St. Paddy’s celebration. I can’t wait for my Insta feed to be bombarded with all-green everything tomorrow.

Michelle
