M.Jonesy Friday Fab Five Tips – The Wide Leg Pant

We saw a lot of The Wide Leg Pant in 2017. It looks like this trend is here to stay, at least through Spring 2018. As an avid JNCO wearer in th 1990s (shame!), I fell right into line with The Wide Leg.

This week’s Friday Fab Five are the different ways to wear this trend. One thing you should keep in mind when rocking The Wide Leg are proportions. I tend to lean towards a more shape fitting top to balance out the wide, flowiness of the pant. I also like to play with patterns.  The cropped wide leg with a heel can also be an option for a dressier vibe.

Being 5’2, I favor the the high waist wide leg because I feel like it elongates me.

The Wide Leg is such a statement piece! Pair it with a cropped jacket or blazer, bodysuit, heels, or pointed toe flats.

SBMJ Friday Fab Five Tips for The Wide Leg Pant Trend:

1) The Wide Leg Jumpsuit – looking at this outfit, it’s kind of the buffet piece for everything I listed above. Crop length, stripes, floral print. I wasn’t sure how this would turn out because I was hesitant abut the crop. But I think the higher waist cut helped with proportions.  I found this at Marshall’s for $19.99!

Here are a few options for the Wide Leg Jumpsuit:
Striped Cypress Jumpsuit from Madewell
Floral Jumpsuit from TJ Maxx

2) The High Waisted Wide Leg – I bought these pants last spring at a Cabi party, right when The Wide Leg started hitting the scene. What sold me was the paisley pattern details on the side. Then I tried them on and they just hit me in the right places. I’ve worn them dressed up with heels in a bodysuit but also with a basic tank top and sandals. They were great in the fall as well with a creme chunky knit sweater.

Perfect for the office with a blouse tucked in! From Banana Republic.
Want something with a pop of color? Pair these from Nordstrom with a creme tie top and crop blazer for work!

3) Patterned Wide Leg – found these cuties at Nordstrom BP for $36. They are soft jersey cotton and makes me feel like I’m wearing pajamas (common these in a lot of my pieces). Not comfortable with a bodysuit or form fitting top? A basic tee or flowy blouse works fine.

Print Flared pants from Forever 21, perfect festival wear with a graphic tee.
Florals are perfect for Spring — snag these from Forever 21 as well! Pair it with a basic tank or bodysuit and top it off with a crop black blazer.
I just saw these on Akira and am going to order. More stripes! Love it!

4) Wide Leg with a little something EXTRA – boop! These are from forever 21 for $20. I saw the stripe detail and then tried them on and saw the peek-a-boo and it was a no brainer. Just a little bit extraaaaaa. You know me 🤷🏽‍♀️💁🏽‍♀️✨

Espadrilles, tank, and sun hat and you’re resort wear ready with these Split leg pants from Nordstrom BP.
Creme lace cami and the sun hat from above and you’re set. Day 2 of your resort wear right here with these Floral pants from ASOS.

5) The Striped Wide Leg – I like to call these my eating pants 👖🐷 These striped velvet pants are from Akira. I’ve seen a lot of this paper bag waist lately and I’m digging. I just ordered a pair so be prepared to see that on Insta OOTD soon.

Here’s a very similar pair from Miss Guided. Remember your proportions…fitted top with these roomy bottoms.
And one more black and white stripe. I can’t get enough of the stripe trend this season.

So what do you think? Are you still apprehensive on trying? There are so many different options with the wide leg. Make your statement in this spring trend while it’s still here!

Michelle
