M.Jonesy Friday Five – My Five Favorite LBDs
Although I like to keep up with the latest trends, sometimes it’s good to get back to basics. This week’s SBMJ Fab 5 is inspired by some of my favorite little black dresses.
Every woman should have their go-to LBD in their closet. It’s an essential. There’s so many options — short, midi, long sleeve, short sleeve, no sleeve, cut outs, backless, different necklines, and the list goes on. You surely can find a LBD that will fit your style.
Staying within the theme of multiple use pieces, the little black dress is one of those that can be dressed up or dressed down. I reference back to my post a couple weeks ago on switching up a poncho or leather jacket to change the feel of a little black dress.
With wedding season around the corner, there’s so many options of what to wear, sometimes the LBD is a perfect solution.
Find a little black dress with a pencil skirt bottom, and pair with a blazer and you have the perfect work outfit.
You can even find basic little black dresses and throw a denim vest over it for a more urban look.
Over the years the little black dress has taken many shapes. But the overall chicness of the LBD stays the same.
Oh and good news is you do not have to break the bank either. If you’re looking for more LBD options – regular and plus size (!!!), check out my Arthur Style Page

Here are my FIVE of my favorite LBD’s hanging in my closet!
ONE – MINI TANK
This little black tank dress I found for less than $30 from Fashion Nova. I love the feel of it and it has a little sheen to the fabric. I’ve paired it with a kimono and a blazer. I’ve also worn a denim jacket and my Adidas sneakers to run errands.
TWO – SEXY SEE THROUGH CUT OUTS
The name speaks for itself. I have always wanted to try something that was mesh-ey or had cut outs. Sorry not sorry. I paired with over the knees to cut down on the amount of skin I was showing. 😬 Wore this to a banquet last spring and then again to a group dinner.
THREE – ASYMMETRICAL HEM
Such a simple dress, but a few details that make it spectacular are the gold zipper detail down the back, the high neck, and what sold me — the asymmetrical hem. Wore this baby for a fun dinner at Kimodo in Miami. Figured if there was a Drake sighting, this is theeee dress I wanted to be wearing. Holla atcha girl Papi!
FOUR – BEYONCE TAUGHT ME
My birthday dress. Beyonce inspired. Enough said. Long live the Queen B. The Freakum Dress. I would wear it to the grocery store if I could.
FIVE – THE STATEMENT DRESS
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this LBD. My new fave. I wore it in Miami and paired with my Loubeys and felt like I was a celebrity! Again, sorry not sorry!!! The statement sleeves are what sold me. I also called it my Velociraptor dress because of the sleeve 😂 P.S. it was less than $40. Anyone have an event they want to invite me to so I can wear this again???
