M.Jonesy Friday Fab Five Tips – How To Be More Stylish

This week’s Friday Fab five is brought you by…YOU! I took to Instagram to find out what everybody was interested in reading week. I gave you the option between “5 Festival Inspired Looks” (given that Coachella is here) versus “5 Ways To Be More Stylish”.

And the winner is…
HOW TO BE MORE STYLISH!

***But don’t you worry, there is going to be a festival inspired post in your future for that 20 % of you who want to flex your crochet vests and flower crowns. As one of my gal pals said to me “I don’t think you could ignore Coachella”…which is 100% true LOL. But I digress…

For all you “jeans and a basic tee” people out there, I’ve added some looks below that should give you some OOTD inspiration.

Once again, these photos below were taken by my BFF Alexa with my Amazon Echo Look!

TIP #1: LAYER
Take your basic “Jeans and a Tee Shirt” uniform and add a layer. Try to think the Rule of 3 for each outfit. Top, Bottom, and X. In this case, you could add a flannel either around your waist (how 1990s of me) or on your body. Top it off with a moto jacket and you’re ready to go. Again, I’m wearing open-toe booties, but I can very well see this outfit with wedge sandals or some sort of sneaker.

TIP #2: SWITCHAROO
The good ole switcharoo! Sometimes a simple swap of one of the components of your uniform can amp up your look. Ditch those jeans and try some leather leggings or skirt. Want a “comfy” look? There are tons of options for wide legs or Palazzo pants right now. Pair that with your tee, tucked in, and you have a new stylish outfit. Oh and refer back to #1. I changed up the Jeans And Tee look with white denim, faux leather leggings, and a black skirt. Add that 3rd piece and go slay. Learn more about my personal styling services »

TIP #3: PLAY WITH PRINTS
Don’t fear prints. If you use them correctly, they can play into your advantage. I love wearing vertical stripes because they elongate me and make me look slimmer (I HOPE!). I traded in my tee for a floral striped bodysuit. Feeling edgy? Find a printed bottom to replace those jeans. Maybe a printed wide leg like in my previous post. Here I opted for a striped slit skirt. Patterns are a riskier way to try to be more stylish, so add them where you feel comfortable. If these options are too daring for you, try a patterned cardigan.

TIP #4: ACCESSORIZE WITH A POP OF COLOR
This is one of my favorite ways to improvise. Whether I’m heading out to dinner or running to Target, adding a colorful handbag or clutch just does something to your outfit. And even better is the fact that you don’t need to break the bank for this tip. There are so many affordable handbags out there!

TIP #5: UPGRADE BASICS WITH EMBELLISHMENTS
Little details can make a huge difference. My basic long sleeve top and black tank top get an upgrade with these embellished bodysuits. The detailing down the middle or the choker neck immediately elevate this basic look. Not into bodysuits? Try a tank with lace detail or long sleeve with bell sleeves.

These are 5 SIMPLE ways to elevate your style. You probably don’t even have to buy anything new to implement any of these tips. Go into your closet and take a peek. Comment below on what you find and send me a message with your OOTD!

Keep in mind that these exact looks may not be up your alley, but my goal is to inspire you to come up with different ways to mix up your standard “uniform”. If you’re thinking to yourself “Cmon Michelle, I don’t wear dresses or heels…I can’t try your OOTD look”, THINK AGAIN! The key is to take these concepts and apply them to YOUR regular day-to-day attire. I don’t want you to be me…I want you to be you! “Do you, boo!” (-said me, every day).

Swap out my heels for slip-on skeaks or wedge sandals. See last week’s post for how you can try my dress looks with pants and tops.

And if you still fall short on items in your closet, check out my Arthur page with different pieces that you can snag to try out some of these tips.
